COLLEGE COURSES

All Year 10 students spend ½ a day a week at College on a combined School Links Course.  This year, Thanet College and Thanet Skills Studio are providing this one year course for our students.  They will have tasters in several subjects which will help them decide which subjects they might like to pursue in more detail in Year 11.

The course is organised into modules in the following areas of study:

                        Construction                 -           bricklaying and carpentry

Healthy Lifestyle           -           fitness and hairdressing

Catering                       -           Cooking and quick service

Engineering                   -           motor vehicle and electronics

                        Media                          -           film and broadcasting

Students are taken to college in school vehicles and supported by school staff throughout the time at college in Year 10.

Throughout the year, students will put together a portfolio of all the work they have done at college.  At the end of Year 10 they will receive a Thanet College Certificate of Attendance.

In Year 11, students will have the opportunity to choose a college course to study in more detail and spend 1 – 2 days a week at college.  It is more likely that these courses will be arranged at a college local to where students live.

School will organise college placements and taxi transport where necessary.  Students will be encouraged to attend with only peripheral school supervision.

It is then hoped that students will continue to study at college or courses that have interested them post 16, i.e. after leaving school.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At present, the School does not organise work experience placements but hopes to for the next academic year.
